Ticks are blood sucking arthropods related to spiders, mites and scorpions.

Ticks can be found in both rural and urban areas.  They prefer moist and shady areas, such as long grass, leaf litter and bushes.  Ticks can live in their natural environment for up to 3 years and can survive for one year without taking a meal.  Ticks will latch onto your pet as he/she passes by.
